See all. Write a review a photo. Very good. Is a fine roide attraction. Found this place on atlas obscura. Looked for somewhere to breakup a Roadtrip through Iowa. We did the short trail then went across the bridge. Bridge was fun. The Bridge of Unrequited Love? While I was visiting, some locals said the maiden was buried at the bottom of the ravine and if you cross the bridge at night, you can hear her mournful cries. I did not cross the bridge at night female solo traveler and I don't do ghosts and I don't recommend others doing it alone either! Take a left onto Hwy 92 which turns into Oak Street when you get to town.
Turn right onto Third Street there's a bright blue pointing the wayand the bridge is on the right where the road bends. Joyce United States 15 contributions. Swinging Across the Ravine. How fun! It is well maintained, thankfully. It was very fun! Terri P Navarre, FL contributions. Fun Little Stop! My husband and I stopped here on a trip through Iowa. We thought it would be a fun thing to do and we were right!
It was deserted when we were there. Perhaps it is busy at time, but not on the weekday morning when we were there. It is not hard to find, as it is right off the Main Street in tiny Columbus Junction. Still, it was quiet and no one bothered us. The bridge is not terribly high and over a ravine, not much water. It is shady and cool.
I would not have wanted to be on there with any pranksters. My husband and I walked over in both directions. ALG contributions. This bridge really swings! It's pretty high off the ground, but felt very safe, even when rocking back and forth. It was a good "stretch our legs" stop. William B Columbus, OH contributions. Childhood Memories Rekindled. I used to walk up here from my Aunt and Uncle's home downtown to play on the bridge when I visited. Now 50 years later that same bridge scares the crap out of the old me.
It is cool to walk across but don't do it with a bunch of jokers. If you walk over the center cable the bridge doesn't swing side to side as much.
This was pretty cool, BUT, if you are afraid of heights don't do it. I'm not afraid of heights and it freaked me out a little bit. I'm heavyset so I'm not sure if that played a part in it but the bridge really got to swinging as I was walking across it. I mean really going from side to side, or maybe it was the speed at which I was walking.
Either way I liked it! If you're brave and stop in the middle you can get some really good pictures.
It's beautiful in the fall. My 9 year old went across and loved it so did my husband. It's a Bridge Saw the marker for this site and made a brief stop.
It's a nice old pedestrian bridge spanning a small gorge. It's pretty but not likely worth a special trip. There were also some giant concrete Lego pieces used as guardrails for parking. Kids would enjoy it. Wendi S Tipton, IA contributions. Jeep cruise stop 2. Heading south and haven't been here since I was a young girl, husband has never been there!
It was fun and on our way. Giggled like little kids! Long drive to get to the middle of nowhere! If you are afraid of heights it is probably gonna make you gag up lunch.
It was cool jumping, bouncing, and white knuckling it holding onto the guide wires. Be careful if you have jokesters who rattle the bridge around but enjoy the giggles, smiles, and fun. Daughter wished we had stayed longer but hub and son were woozy spelling? Interesting history and story on the end.
Found some nummy turnovers at the gas station just down the way so hit that!! Showing of Jennifer K 1 contribution. Is this still available after the derecho we had last year? Read all replies.
